Week Five: Healthy vs Unhealthy Coping Strategies
In Week Five of our Trauma Cohort, we will be diving in to the ways in which we cope when healing from trauma. In moments of intense psychological distress, it's completely understandable to seek relief, to grasp at anything that might help us manage the overwhelming emotions. Sometimes, that leads us to unhealthy coping strategies, which might offer temporary relief, a brief respite from the pain, or a fleeting sense of control in a world that feels chaotic and unpredictable. But ultimately, they can keep us stuck in a cycle of suffering and hinder our ability to heal. The good news is, there are healthy ways to cope with trauma. These strategies empower us to manage triggers, reduce emotional distress, and move forward on the path of recovery. These strategies focus on building resilience, self-regulation, and self-awareness. In this practice, we will cover many of the strategies we can utilize to cope in healthy ways.
